Karen discovered The Acorn in 2010, frequently enjoying the variety and excellence of the programs offered. Now that she is spending more time in Grand Beach, she sought out an opportunity to become involved to a greater degree with the community, and with The Acorn in particular.
Karen has spent her career in the nonprofit world, focusing on healthcare in underserved communities. As the immediate past President/Chief Executive Officer of Sinai Chicago, a private safety net healthcare system with over $1 billion in revenues, Karen oversaw a successful turnaround of financial, philanthropic, and operational performance, and managed the four-hospital system through the COVID pandemic.
Since leaving Sinai Chicago in 2022, Karen has served as an Independent Board Member for several healthcare-sector privately owned companies, as well as acting as a senior advisor to Juniper Advisory, a firm providing mergers and acquisitions services to hospitals. An advocate for utilizing technology to improve healthcare delivery, Karen is a volunteer board member at MATTER, a global healthcare startup incubator and corporate innovation accelerator.
Karen holds an MBA from Northwestern University, J.L. Kellogg School of Management. She is a frequently requested national speaker, world traveler, avid bicyclist, and cook.
