2024 Acorn Singer-Songwriter Competition Runner Up Andy Sydow will return to The Acorn on Saturday, April 26th. The concert will feature former competition finalist Doug Harsch and emerging artist Molly Cooper. Andy is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist whose lyrics paint a picture of poetic realism. He draws comparisons to voices like Paul Simon and Jackson Browne, mixed with a roots rock vibe reminiscent of Tom Petty or Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.

About the Artists:

Americana, rock, folk, singer-songwriter, Andy Sydow is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist whose lyrics paint a picture of poetic realism. Touring consistently both solo and with a backing band, Sydow is known to sway an audience with acoustic guitar ballads, sing a few numbers on his lap steel, and even sit down at the keys to show off his surprising boogie-woogie piano chops. He draws comparisons to voices like Paul Simon and Jackson Browne, mixed with a roots rock vibe reminiscent of Tom Petty or Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.

Andy has had the chance to open for acts such as Chuck Prophet, Lucero, Brett Dennen, Shane Smith & The Saints, and Anders Osborne. He was also named a finalist in the Telluride Troubadour Contest (2024), Acorn Theater Songwriter Contest (2024), LEAF Songwriter Contest (2024), Kerrville New Folk Songwriter Competition (2023 & 2021), Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Songwriter Competition (2023), and International Songwriting Competition (2021).

This fall, Sydow released Night Skin, a full length album produced by Anders Osborne. Recorded at Dockside Studio in Maurice, LA, Mike Dillon and Casandra Faulconer contributed percussion and bass. The first single, “Follow The Rain Down” came out on June 7, followed by “Every Little Thing About Love” (June 28), and “Arizona Dirt” (July 26).

Sydow has toured internationally and received accolades from No Depression, Stereo Stickman, We Write About Music, and Daily Music Spin. On top of that, the last several years have seen the release of over a dozen tracks Sydow produced for other artists, including Lauren Frihauf and Payge Turner (The Voice, Season 19).

When he's not touring, writing, or recording, Sydow spends time talking to other creatives and music industry professionals on his podcast, Middle Class Rock Star. The hour"ish" long weekly program comes out periodically on all streaming platforms, as well as 30 FM stations around Colorado (via Chris K's Colorado Playlist). MCRS has played host to the likes of: Mickey Raphael (harmonica, Willie Nelson), Andy Frasco, Dango Rose (Elephant Revival), Jeremy Lawton (Big Head Todd & The Monsters), Leftover Salmon, Phil Cook, and Shane Smith.

Doug Harsch is a singer/songwriter in the time-honored tradition – writing and singing songs with a heart covered in the dust of life with a sound that invokes the grand American story. His smart, fun, hand-clapping, foot-stomping songs are full of both the joy and grit that life brings with it.

This South Bend, Indiana-based troubadour has been playing a brand of music – a stew of folk, blues, bluegrass and rock – that he affectionately calls “Rockin’ Americana Folk” around the Michiana area for many years at various coffeehouses, listening rooms, eateries, farmers markets, festivals and special events all across the landscape.

Molly Cooper is 16 and a sophomore in high school. She has been singing, dancing, and performing since the age of 4, also picking up piano and guitar along the way. Molly has a passion for theatre and participates in as many stage productions as she can, both at school and through local theatre organizations. Recent favorite roles include Regina George in Mean Girls and Anne Boleyn in SIX. She is also trained in several styles of dance including ballet, jazz, and musical theatre. But Molly’s first love is to sing! She has participated in many choirs and ensembles, including a couple of crowd-favorite barbershop quartets with classmates. In 2023, she was crowned the Hoosier Star Youth Division winner, and she has had the honor of performing the National Anthem several times at South Bend Cubs games and other events in and around her hometown of La Porte.
